I really enjoyed the course and provided me a great foundation to the addition and as a new user. I would be interested in more advanced courses. You have to ask yourself what your goal of completing this training is. If you simply want to learn Adobe Captivate then there are experts who offer training in just about every country in the world plus there are an assortment of online courses both live and pre-recorded. The live ones are best of course because you can ask questions and interact with the facilitator.

If you wish to be proactive you see if you can get enough people together for them to run a session in your location. Adobe has been offering this certificate for a few sessions now and its starting to look like what microsoft did with some of its earlier certificates.

Students I have trained have told me that is the process that they are used to and that having taken a small hands on session with 3- 5 people in attendance for 2 — 4 days personalized training gave them the skills to compete for their positions. David, I am at this moment explaining two certified users how to create a quiz, and what to avoid to have a functional quiz….

Will this ever be offered virtually? Not everyone has the budget to travel. Has this or is being considered? Is that being looked at all? I have used Captivate Prime LMS to offer video training materials, record student participation and issue certificates.

That would save participants the money as well so we could probably look at setting the certificate fee back at US rather than US. Adobe that seems like padding to me after the fact. So my solution is, rather than sitting in a crammed room for 6 hours with 25 — 30 others, Adobe use the technology that you are trying to sell to us — Adobe Connect to carry out the training and Captivate Prime record certification at a fraction of the cost.

If you are worried about someone else completing the open book exam for the certificate online as someone commented — then why am I using your technology. It is not a training at all. You know my point of view. They came to tell me that they learned a lot more from those tips than from the whole day of demonstration. I would really want to take that course. My profound conviction is that advanced training should be personalized. Each developer has its own skills developed by many types of learning, works in a different environment, needs different advanced skills. But what would have to be in an advanced course, when I see so many developers lacking some basic skills?

Would you accept a pretest which would certainly not be a LCQ assessment but a practical test? Do you think, even with a pretest, that all developers looking for an advanced course need the same skills in that training?

A pretest practical or otherwise might be helpful. The value of it would depend on myriad factors. I think course providers need to be pretty clear about what learners will gain from completing a course — with for instance, well articulated learning outcomes.

Meanwhile, if a learner seeking advanced skills, still lacks some basic skills, it may not actually be a hinderance. Sometimes this is where ingenuity is born. Check out Lynda. There is generally a preview video that will tell you what each course entails. There is a subscription fee, but it may be worth the cost to learn the skills you need.

I have found the Lynda. Shared actions are a lot easier to introduce, since they can be used without having to develop them. I always include the use of shared actions in a basic training of 4 days. As you say, attending the Summit was great for networking. I also found the training process for the program valuable. The course files are supplied, so I followed along. Also, this was a great way to practice all the new features in Captivate , and have the confidence of knowing how they work.

I think it was worthwhile, and I agree with you that it should be offered in more locations. That would at least give people the option of deciding whether or not to gain the certification. In that case you have to reflect about what is really of interest. Do you need a certificate for some reason, than this newbie intro may be worthwhile. But if you want to update your present skills, about certain feature you feel need training, this may not be the best training.

Hope you understand what I mean. As a trainer mostly not basic training I prefer to offer personalized training, based on existing skills and projects the trainee is working on. Sounds like the start of a flipped class, but self-assessment is missing. The live day is not a flipped class however, only a demonstration of the majority of the workflows you have seen in the videos. May be due to the very big classes… A flipped class is supposed to focus on the problems of the trainees…. Not the case here.

Do you think, even with a pretest, that all developers looking for an advanced course need the same skills in that training? A pretest practical or otherwise might be helpful.

The value of it would depend on myriad factors. I think course providers need to be pretty clear about what learners will gain from completing a course — with for instance, well articulated learning outcomes. Meanwhile, if a learner seeking advanced skills, still lacks some basic skills, it may not actually be a hinderance.

Sometimes this is where ingenuity is born. Check out Lynda. There is generally a preview video that will tell you what each course entails. There is a subscription fee, but it may be worth the cost to learn the skills you need. I have found the Lynda.
